Danced at Chawton House, the family home of Jane Austen's brother, in September 2007
This Quadrille is one of the five original notations, called the Code of Terpsicore by C. Blais, recently discovered in Chawton House Library by the Hampshire Regency Dancers. It was choreographed by Diana Cruikshank based on her knowledge of the dances of the period, and here you see it danced for the first time in 200 years.
Watch how each lady in turn flirts (coquettes) with with all of the men except her own partner, dances a solo on her own to show her independence, and then finally returns to her partner. This is great fun to dance with lots of flirtatious expressions.
