Man has beaten horse over a cross-country course for the first time in the event's 25 year history. Nearly 500 runners set off on a course of 22 miles (35 kms) from Llanwrtyd Wells and over the surrounding hills of mid-Wales. Fifteen minutes later nearly 50 horses and riders set off in pursuit. This year the first runner across the line was Huw Lobb, a first-time entrant in the race. The Londoner is a regular marathon runner and covered the distance in two hours 5 minutes and 19 seconds. The first rider to finish was Zoe White, riding Kay Bee Jay, who completed the course in two hours, 7 minutes and 36 seconds.
