A team from the BBC1 programme, Heaven and Earth were in Bungay on Thursday 13th June 2002, to film a feature on the Legend of the Black Dog of Bungay, Suffolk. Local historian, Christopher Reeve, was interviewed about the legend by Ben Fogle (star of Castaway). Chris is an authority on the Black Dog having written a book about it and an article can be seen in more detail on this website. http://www.bungay-suffolk.co.uk/history/black-dog.htm Filming took place with a reconstruction of the event starring Inca, Ben's black labrador in St Mary's Church followed by the interview with Chris in the grounds. The result was shown on 30th June 2002 at 10am as the programme explores 'Living Legends' having already produced features on monsters, banshees and vampires! The Black Dog appeared at St Mary's Church during a violent storm in 1577 and ran amok causing fear, injury and death to members of the congregation. The programme also shows Chris at Blythburgh Church as the dog allegedly headed there causing more injuries and deaths. The BBC then went on to film the Black Dog Football Club in training, with Ben and Inca joining the players. The BBC were in the town filming the Legend of the Black Dog for the programme Heaven and Earth and visited the Clubs ground to pursue the Black Dog connection. Ben Fogle was eager to participate and quickly donned the Black Dogs strip while his dog, Inca, a beautiful black labrador, soon put the team through their paces. Ben Fogle went to Southwold where he interviewed parapsychologist Simon Sherwood, who has been researching Apparitions Of Black Dogs. website below http://nli.northampton.ac.uk/ass/psych-staff/sjs/blackdog.htm
